After a brace against Wolfsburg in Borussia Mönchengladbach’s 2-2 draw on Saturday afternoon, Marcus Thuram (25) took his tally in the Bundesliga to seven after 10 games, earning praise from VfL’s Marcel Schäfer and his coach, Daniel Farke.

“Thuram is a world class striker. You have to say it like that. He has world class stature,” said Wolfsburg sporting director Schäfer. Gladbach head coach Farke added: “Marcus is in excellent shape. He has all the qualities to fill this position well. He’s still getting used to that central striker role. It’s still about running paths, but we’re working on that.” Farke added that Thuram is already “an exceptional player of the highest international class.”

Last summer, Thuram was about to join Inter before a serious injury saw the Frenchman’s transfer fall through. Already surpassing last season’s goalscoring tally, Thuram is again attracting interest from Europe’s elite club. A potential catalyst for Thuram’s departure would be his expiring contract with less than one-year remaining on his current deal.
