Marco Rose admitted he would prefer more mundane victories in the aftermath of Borussia Dortmund’s rollercoaster experience at Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday.

Dortmund went behind three times at the BayArena, but eventually claimed all three points courtesy of a 77th-minute Erling Haaland penalty.

“The most important thing today is the three points,” visiting manager Rose said.

“It was a wild game, a spectacle for all football lovers. We saw two very good teams, it was a top Bundesliga match.

“From the coach’s point of view, of course, you wish it was different. We’re conceding too many goals, even if we didn’t allow all that many chances today.

“If despite that you can still win in Leverkusen, it speaks volumes of your team.

“We’re going home happy, but we also know we still have a few things to work on. We have to improve on this.”

The victory leaves Die Schwarzgelben third in the table, three points behind leaders Bayern Munich.
