Marc Guehi to put in a transfer request? Maybe that is what is needed now…

Some things have been niggling away at me over the past few days and the only way to deal with it, was by writing to The Mag.

Firstly, the game on Saturday.

Stating the obvious, it’s a long season.

Many players are not at concert pitch from the off. Yes they have friendlies, but they are used to get fitness levels up and find the feel of the game again, then come the real games and often the 100% is not quite there.

You can sometimes see the teams/players that are ready to go, often including the promoted teams (this doesn’t last), this was clearly seen on Saturday as Southampton were hungry and put in a shift that can’t last.

This is down to their manager with instructions to run and cheat to a level not normally managed. The trouble is, they got away with it, through yet again terrible a terrible referee on the pitch and VAR.

With the Ben Brereton Diaz and Fabian Schar incident, surely the culprits are really Diaz for cheating, the manager for his tactics plus the referee and VAR for lack of knowledge/awareness.

I feel this incident should be charged as bringing the game into disrepute. Remember how Arteta managed to escape last season without punishment.

We forget how Fabian Schar must feel, first game of the season and pushed over from behind when the referee had already stopped play. Then both players moving their heads forward, only for Diaz to throw himself theatrically to the ground, yet Schar the one who gets red carded AND banned no doubt for three matches!

Finally, on the Marc Guehi saga, watching some of his game on Sunday, it looked to me that he didn’t want to be there and is being kept at Crystal Palace against his wishes.

Steve Parish has had plenty to say, as Palace have turned down four bids.

It has been widely reported that Newcastle United have offered £65m in total, including something like £5m in potential add-ons.

Newcastle United should now get tough and say this £65m offer is still on the table but rather than any further  increases, tell Crystal Palace that this £65m figure will be reduced by £1m per day until settled.
