Marc Cucurella and Ben Chilwell set to debut interesting new Chelsea setup

When Chelsea signed Marc Cucurella earlier this month, there was some confusion about his role.

Why were the Blues signing a left back when they already had Ben Chilwell, plus two capable backups?

The explanation was that Cucurella was also going to be used as cover at left centre back, as well as playing at left back while Ben Chilwell recovers from his long term injury.

We’ve already seen both on the pitch in that setup together after Cucurella was brought on as a sub, but it seems like this weekend we will see it from the start for the first time.

Nizaar Kinsella in the Evening Standard wrote that that’s “expected” to be the setup tomorrow, with Kalidou Koulibaly suspended. Chilwell was rested last weekend, and should be fresh and ready for the left flank, while Cucurella gets a chance to show what he can do more centrally from the start.
