Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has been forced to leave the German national team squad and return to his club for treatment on an adductor injury.
Neuer – who has made 28 appearances for Bayern this season – was called up by Julian Nagelsmann for the upcoming friendlies against France and the Netherlands.
But after sustaining an injury while training with the national team, the 37-year-old has withdrawn from the squad and will return to Munich.
According to a report from BILD, Germany’s goalkeepers were informed this week that Neuer will be the team’s number one at this summer’s European Championship, but Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen will now deputise in the upcoming friendlies.
Both Neuer’s club and his national team will be hoping the injury isn’t too serious.
