Former Roma defender Kostas Manolas has confirmed that he will not be returning to the Stadio Olimpico to join Daniele De Rossi’s set up, but has thanked the Giallorossi for their continuous love and support.

Manolas shuts down Roma links

“I’ve received so many messages since yesterday and I want to thank all the Roma fans for the love they’ve shown me, but there’s nothing true about the things I’ve read. Forza Roma!,” the former Giallorossi centre-back wrote on his Instagram story.

Reports in Italy claimed that Roma had been targeting a move to bring Manolas back to the club after his recent return to Serie A with Salernitana at the end of last season.

The Giallorossi wanted to bring in a new centre-back at the end of the transfer window, plus one more to replace Chris Smalling, who has recently joined Al-Fayha of the Saudi Pro League.

Roma have now officially announced the signing of former Atletico Madrid centre-back Mario Hermoso, and ex-Bayern and Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels is expected to have his medical with the Giallorossi this afternoon.
