Here are the nominees …

3rd – Johnny Carey

Carey captained United between 1949 and 1953 and was an integral part of Sir Matt Busby’s post-war side.

He was the first Irishman to win a major honour at Old Trafford when he helped the club to the 1948 FA Cup, and in 1952 he also lifted the First Division title.

2nd – Roger Byrne

Like Carey, Byrne is widely regarded as one of United’s greatest ever captains.

The England international began his career as a wing-back but his versatility meant he played in a number of positions over his 245 appearances for the club.

He won three First Division titles between 1952 and 1957 but tragically, he was one of the players who lost their lives in the 1958 Munich air disaster.

He was just 28.

And the winner is … Gary Neville

Easily United’s finest right-back of the Premier League era, Neville was one of the club’s fabled Class of ’92 and made over 600 first-team appearances before hanging up his boots in 2011.

His time at the club yielded an incredible 20 major honours, including eight Premier League titles and two Champions Leagues.

And best of all? He was and always will be United through and through.

Here’s how the team is looking so far …
