Manchester United are reportedly interested in Wolves’ Matheus Cunha to provide support for Rasmus Hojlund in the striking department.

The Red Devils struggled for goals all season, scoring a paltry 57 goals in the league as they finished in eighth place in the table.

Only Rasmus Hojlund, Bruno Fernandes, Scott McTominay and Alejandro Garnacho reached double figures for the Reds in all competitions.

There was a huge amount of pressure thrown on the shoulders of 21 year old Rasmus Hojlund. He arrived to the club with a heavy price tag of £72m and was soon thrown into the spotlight as fellow striker Anthony Martial got injured in December and didn’t play again all season.

This meant that the young Dane had to carry the burden of being the only recognised striker in the whole senior squad in his debut season. It was far from ideal. He still managed 16 goals but had his fair share of struggles as he went on long goal droughts and barely got involved in some games.

Therefore, INEOS have made it a clear objective of this window to try and bring in an experienced player who can help share the burden of being the main goalscorer at the Theatre of Dreams.

The Mirror have reported that Cunha could be the solution to INEOS’ problems.

“Manchester United have £60million-rated Wolves strike star Matheus Cunha in their sights,” reporter Steve Bates claims. “And they are also on the trail of West Ham’s African star Mohammed Kudus.”

“Old Trafford scouts consistently tracked Brazilian attacker Cunha last season – and he’s believed to be high on their list of targets as United look to replace departed Frenchman Anthony Martial.”

Cunha made a stunning start to his career in England, scoring 14 goals and providing eight assists in “an impressive season”. Bates notes that “his absence towards the end of the season was a big reason for Wolves’ drop down the table.”

The striker is said to “perfectly fit” the profile of players Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants as he is “aggressive, dynamic and ambitious.”

Wolves will want to keep their player but United will try to entice the forward by offering double his £60,000 a week wage.

United are also reported to harbour an interest in West Ham’s Kudus who scored 14 goals but he has also been heavily linked to arch-rivals Liverpool.

At 25 and 23 years old, both players fit the bill of Premier League proven but ready to make the next step up, like fellow target Michael Olise at Crystal Palace.
