Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United career is officially underway, with the Red Devils beating Everton 4-0 yesterday.
Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee both scored two each, with Rashford now having scored three goals in Amorim’s first three games in charge.
With the two forwards looking on the up, the question is who can benefit from Amorim’s arrival?
Marcus Rashford
Rashford now has three in three under Amorim and looks in red-hot form. Both the winger himself and United fans will be hoping he can sustain this form or something like it, as too often in his United career he has flattered to deceive.
The 27-year-old has been spoken about as potentially being a difficult fit in Amorim’s system, as he doesn’t play with conventional wingers. But Rashford has so far played as a number 10 in the system, next to Bruno Fernandes, and flourished.
Joshua Zirkzee
Zirkzee really struggled to get going under Erik Ten Hag, and after scoring against Fulham on his debut, he didn’t score again under the Dutchman.
He has only started five Premier League games this season and with this being his first campaign at United, he would have hoped for a better start.
It seemed under ten Hag as though Zirkzee was not suited to the Premier League. He lacks athleticism and doesn’t find himself in the box enough to attract chances. But yesterday the game was catered more to his style of play, and he thrived.
Amad Diallo
Amad has perhaps benefitted from Amorim coming to the club more than anyone else. Too often under ten Hag he was left in the shadows and didn’t receive game time. He has, though, started two of Amorim’s first three games at right wing-back and excelled, getting three assists.
An issue that may occur however is that Diallo isn’t a strong defender and when United come up against better opposition than they have, for example Arsenal this Wednesday, United may need a different option to play than Diallo. But for now, he is proving a good choice.
