Manchester United barely survived in extra time against Coventry City in the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday before scrapping past them on penalties to set tup back-to-back Manchester derby finals in the competition.

However, the Red Devils, who were 3-0 ahead till the 70th minute, almost squandered everything as the Championship side scored almost at will to equalise before full-time and almost grabbed the winner but for Ellis Simms’ efforts hitting the post and VAR ruling out a goal for a tight off-side.

The team lost its head completely as manager Erik ten Hag’s substitutions nullified their attacking threat while Marcus Rashford seemed to completely give up when he got taken off.

The manager’s position looks under threat and the heads of plenty of players are also on the chopping block with Sir Jim Ratcliffe watching the action unfold in front of him.

Striker needed

A huge summer lies ahead for the future of the club and bringing in a new striker should be top of their priority list.

Since going on that run of six consecutive goals in the Premier League, Rasmus Hojlund has once again begun looking like he is not ready to lead the line for a club of United’s stature, which was expected given his age.

The Dane scored the final spot-kick to send United to the final but from open play, he hardly managed to affect the game as he struggled with his back-to-goal play.

He lost eight aerial duels and the majority of his ground duels which did not allow the 12-time FA Cup winners from holding on to the ball when the pressure was mounting.

He also missed a huge opportunity which could have eased the nerves but he ended up dwelling on the ball inside the box and eventually gave the ball away.

Rasmus needs help

He ended the game with a pass accuracy rate of 81 percent, managing only 17 passes while failing to find a teammate with his solitary crossing effort.

Hojlund gave away the ball nine times and conceded one foul and was given the second-lowest score among United stars at the end of the game by Sofascore.

The former Ajax coach had asked for reinforcements but he was given nothing. The Dane looks like he needs more help and the club need a readymade option and not someone young to partner him next season.

United need goals and Hojlund needs more time to show his full potential and an experienced star who can mentor him and can hit the ground running would be the ideal acquisition moving forward.
