is stepping up his fitness back at Manchester United after returning to England from Argentina duty.

Martinez was called up to the Argentina squad despite not playing for six weeks due to a knee injury.

The centre-back trained with his Argentina team-mates this week but has now returned to Manchester as he targets a swift comeback.

United play Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday, when they will bid to continue their push for the Champions League.

They allowed Martinez to link up with Argentina to boost his recovery due to the high-level of training sessions in America, where the World Cup winners are playing El Salvador and Costa Rica in what is their last get-together before this summer’s Copa America.

His rehabilitation is going to plan but Martinez has decided to return to the UK, where he will step up his training at Carrington ahead of the Brentford game.

Martinez was not involved as Argentina beat El Salvador 3-0 on Saturday with goals from Premier League trio Cristian Romero, Enzo Fernandez and Giovani Lo Celso.
