According to Express (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Manchester United are anticipating a major battle in their bid to keep hold of Marcus Rashford.

After a period of disappointment, the Englishman has roared back this season, enjoying a wonderful start to the 2022/23 campaign. He has also emerged as one of England’s standout performers during the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup.

In light of his return to prominence, Manchester United are keen on prolonging the attacker’s future at Old Trafford. However, with his current deal expiring at the end of the season, Man United are increasingly fearful of losing their star player.

They are particularly fearful of the interest of Real Madrid, who are thought to be one of the clubs keeping close tabs on Rashford’s situation. They are expected to pounce on any opportunity to sign the forward, whose contract expires in 2023.

Manchester United have reportedly tabled a contract extension offer to Rashford, but the player is yet to respond. The club have the option to extend the contract for a further year, but if the player favours an exit, they could be forced to utilise the lever and sanction his sale in the summer of 2023.

Real Madrid’s interest in Rashford stems from his recent performances both for club and country. He also holds a reputation for his experience and a proven track of performing at the highest level. And with the possibility of signing the player on a cut-price deal looming, Los Blancos will be more than ready to pounce.

At the end of the day, though, the decision will be on Rashford, on whether or not he wants to continue his career at Manchester United and help the club rebuild under new coach Erik ten Hag, or join Real Madrid and become a potential long-term replacement for Karim Benzema.
