It is claimed that United and Barcelona are on the cusp of agreeing on a deal worth around £64.4 million.

The hugely talented midfielder was initially reluctant to leave Camp Nou but he has now reportedly been convinced to join the Premier League giants by his former boss Erik ten Hag.

A huge coup

Manchester United endured a disappointing 2021-22 campaign, finishing a lowly sixth in the Premier League table.

It was expected that they would make quality additions this summer, but the club have yet to make a new signing in the transfer window.

Despite the departures of Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic, the Red Devils have failed to make any new additions so far.

Their top rivals Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal have all completed moves for new talent.

However, that situation now looks about to change with the Manchester club close to landing de Jong.

United will have to part with a premium fee but he looks worth every penny. He is a world-class talent who would improve any team in the world.

De Jong is a very clever midfielder who is known for his dribbling, passing and through balls.

The talented player made 32 La Liga appearances last season, scoring three goals and creating three assists.

He averaged 1.3 key passes and 1.6 dribbles per game in the Spanish top-flight last campaign while he also completed 91 percent of his passes (as per WhoScored.com).

Signing the Netherlands international would represent a huge coup for United who will be aiming to finish in the top four this season.
