Manchester United are after a creative attacking midfielder in the summer after Ruben Amorim saw the lack of service being provided to his strikers this season.
Currently, the head coach does not have the right profiles for his 3-4-3 system with winger Alejandro Garnacho forced to play regularly there with Amad still sidelined.
Midfield difficulties have forced the Portuguese tactician to play Bruno Fernandes as a deep-lying playmaker and in the summer, an appropriate solution is likely to be sought.
As per recent reports, the Red Devils seem favourites for Matheus Cunha of Wolverhampton Wanderers with his versatility, eye for a goal and his killer pass seen as the perfect fit for Amorim.
With Wolves open to an installment-based deal, INEOS seem to be in a hurry to acquire their man. But as The Peoples Person relayed recently, Arsenal are long-term fans of the Brazilian and could try and hijack the move.
Which is why the 20-time English league champions have not kept all their eggs in the same basket with Teamtalk revealing Xavi Simons could become a concrete target in case of any complications.
The team from Old Trafford have been long-term admirers of the Dutchman and the only reason he still has not joined is because of his price tag.
“Man Utd’s priority this summer is to sign a new striker and add a number ten. The main two priorities are Matheus Cunha and Liam Delap, with the club trying to do both those deals early, regardless of their tight PSR position.
“There is a possibility that Man Utd could switch their attention to Simons if Cunha doesn’t come off, and the advantage of Simons is he can play left or right wing, or through the centre.”
The RB Leipzig ace has 10 goals and six assists this season and could potentially cost suitors as much as €80 million, more than the package required to land Cunha.
The Brazil international is also Premier League-proven, which ranks highly in INEOS’ eyes and which explains why United are after the Wolves talisman instead of the ex-Paris Saint-Germain star.
Bryan Mbeumo of Brentford is a much more cost-effective option on the club’s radar. As things stand, Cunha seems destined for Old Trafford.
