Manchester United are likely to make multiple changes to the squad after the appointment of manager Ruben Amorim.
The Portuguese prefers to operate with a 3-4-2-1 set-up, and a new left wing-back could be prioritised at some point next year.
Amorim has already informed the board of his transfer stance, and the Daily Mail claims he could eye a reunion with Nuno Mendes.
The 22-year-old built his reputation as a left wing-back at Sporting CP before securing a big-money move to Paris Saint-Germain in 2021.
Mendes shares the same representative as Bruno Fernandes, which could be a potential boost.
Mendes has managed three goal contributions from 11 games this term. He has been in and out of the line-up, but that has been due to multiple injuries.
Despite his injury record, the Portuguese left-back is generally an assured starter when fit under manager Luis Enrique. An exit seems unlikely on the cards.
The £46 million-rated star has the attributes to suit Amorim. He is a brilliant passer of the ball and has also excelled with his ability to win regular duels.
However, he is unlikely to follow Manuel Ugarte from Paris to Manchester next year. Unless he hands in a transfer request, Les Parisiens may not contemplate a sale.
Even if he is available, United need to be wary of his injury woes. Since his move to PSG, Mendes has missed almost 60 games for club and country with muscular injuries.
He had a long-term hamstring injury last term, and United need to be cautious about this.
The Red Devils have already had plenty of issues with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia. They can ill-afford to sign another injury-prone defender.
