Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is interested in signing Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans, according to reports.

The 25-year-old’s current contract at the King Power Stadium is set to expire next summer and he is said to be available on a cut-price £25 million fee (as per The Mail).

Both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have been credited with an interest in him in the past but now United have also entered the race.

According to The Times, Tielemans is on the transfer shortlist of new boss Erik ten Hag.

The midfielder joined the Foxes in January 2019 from Monaco, initially on a loan deal that was later made permanent.

Since his arrival in Leicester, the Belgium international has clocked up 158 appearances across all competitions, scoring 24 goals and 24 assists in the process.

United should sign Tielemans

Manchester United need reinforcements in midfield with Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic both leaving the club.

They are now on the brink of signing Frenkie de Jong, with the Red Devils expected to agree a £64.4m deal with Barcelona.

However, United also need to bring in a second midfielder who is more defence-conscious. And while Tielemans doesn’t fit that role, he is ideally suited to the possession-based football Erik ten Hag wants to play at Old Trafford.

The 25-year-old is known for his tenacity and work rate. Last season, he averaged 2.3 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 1.1 clearances per game in the Premier League. He also created 1.8 shots and 1.2 key passes per match in the English top-flight (as per WhoScored).

The Belgian is only 25, so he has time to improve his game under Ten Hag who has a reputation for developing young players.

And he is said to be available for a cut-price £25m fee, so United shouldn’t pass up on an opportunity like that and should sign him.
