Manchester United consider MLS coach as Ralf Rangnick’s assistant

We already know Ralf Rangnick will not be bringing his long-term coaching partner with him to Manchester United as Lars Kornetka has taken a promotion at Lokomotiv Moscow, where the pair recently worked together.

After replacing Rangnick as their Head of Sports and Development, Kornetka is tied to the Russian outfit, and reports suggest United have their eyes on someone else to come in as assistant manager for the remainder of the season.

According to The Sun, United have already made contact with New York Red Bulls coach Gerhard Stuber, whilst expressing an interest to have him positioned as Rangnick’s right hand man.

Having worked previously at Barnsley, Stuber has already lived in the UK whilst working as a coach.

We don’t know a great deal about Stuber, but Rangnick was hired to offer advice as well as manage the first-team for the next six months. He may see the Austrian as a good fit to help get his message across to the players.

United waved goodbye to first-team coach Michael Carrick after he led the team to a 3-2 win over Arsenal as caretaker manager on Thursday night.

Moreover, the pair worked together at Red Bull Salzburg where Struber was a youth team coach. That is where he worked up the ladder before taking first team manager roles in his homeland of Austria at FC Liefering and Wolfsberger AC.

United would have to buy Struber out of his existing contract with New York, which doesn’t expire for another two years, but it sounds like he is one of Rangnick’s potential arrivals.
