Manchester United go into Sunday’s clash in fourth place in the Barclays Women’s Super League table on 18 points while Liverpool are just three points and one place behind The Red Devils in fifth position.
Despite boasting an unbeaten record against Matt Beard’s side in the Barclays Women’s Super League, Manchester United boss Skinner acknowledges how difficult the fixture will be.
“I think I said this last year too; when you play against Beardy’s teams, they’re always difficult to beat,” Skinner said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “There are some teams that if you play well, you can almost guarantee you’re going to win, whereas this team are not that team. You have to beat Liverpool and it’s a different type of game.
“Even when we won 6-0 last year at home, it didn’t feel anywhere near that. Liverpool are one of the most difficult teams to play in the league and we’re going to have to be at our very best.”
Skinner believes that the Merseyside outfit have improved massively since last season and he knows that his side will really have to be on their game.
He said “I think it’s squad depth, the quality and the way they can mix styles, they’re always aggressive. You’ve got to earn your right in the game.
“I think bar a few moments, we’ve been flawless this season. We’ve got to raise our levels one more time before Christmas in order to win the game.”
Manchester United’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Liverpool is scheduled to kick-off at 12.15pm on Sunday afternoon. Tickets remain on-sale and can be purchased by clicking here.
