Manchester United have enquired about Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba, according to The Athletic.
The contact was made through intermediaries, with United keen to understand what it would take to bring the 21-year-old to Old Trafford.
No direct discussions have taken place. Baleba is tied to a long-term contract which runs until 2028, and Brighton are not actively looking to sell.
They want to keep the Cameroon international for at least one more season. Other clubs are also monitoring Baleba’s development closely.
Brighton signed him from Lille in a deal worth just under £26 million last year.
Baleba played 40 matches in all competitions last season, bagging four goals and two assists. He has also made seven appearances for Cameroon.
He is among the options being considered as United aim to reinforce their midfield during the summer transfer window.
Manager Ruben Amorim has made it clear that central midfield and the forward line are his two key areas to address.
United are also trying to sign Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, but doing both deals may stretch their finances.
Several players will need to be sold before serious spending can be done in multiple positions.
Whether this interest turns into something more will depend on how United’s transfer window unfolds in the coming weeks.
Brighton’s stance remains firm, but they have previously shown they are willing to sell players if the price is right.
