Brighton welcome Manchester City to the Amex Stadium on Sunday, with both sides looking to bounce back from disappointing league results last weekend.
After a sobering defeat at Everton, Brighton responded with a midweek cup thrashing of Oxford United. Meanwhile, Manchester City are aiming to recover from a surprise home loss to Tottenham.
The Seagulls have fond memories of this fixture, having taken four points from a possible six against City last season. Manager Fabian Hürzeler could even become only the second manager, after Ronald Koeman, to face a Pep Guardiola side three times without losing. However, City arrive on the coast boasting a formidable away record, having kept a clean sheet in each of their last five league games on the road.
Fabian Hürzeler has no new injury concerns following the midweek cup win, but is still without the injured trio of Adam Webster, Solly March, and Julio Enciso. Striker Georginio Rutter is a doubt with a knock. The manager has confirmed that midfielder Carlos Baleba, who has been linked with a move to Manchester United, will not be leaving the club.
Pep Guardiola has been boosted by the news that left-back Rayan Aït-Nouri is available for selection after recovering from a knee problem. However, Joško Gvardiol and Mateo Kovačić are both ruled out. Goalkeeper James Trafford is expected to keep his place despite a costly error last weekend, while Erling Haaland is set to make his 100th Premier League appearance.
The start of the Premier League season has been a sobering experience for the Seagulls, who have just one point from two games after a draw with Fulham and a defeat at Everton. However, they mercilessly atoned for their mistakes in the Carabao Cup in midweek, obliterating Oxford United 6-0.
After a 4-0 opening-day win, City were brought back down to earth with a 2-0 home defeat to their bogey team, Tottenham. The loss snapped an 11-game unbeaten run in the league for Pep Guardiola’s side, who will be determined to bounce back immediately and not lose further ground on their title rivals.
Brighton predicted XI: Verbruggen; Wieffer, van Hecke, Dunk, De Cuyper; Baleba, Ayari; Minteh, O’Riley, Mitoma; Welbeck.
Manchester City predicted XI: Trafford; Lewis, Stones, Dias, Aït-Nouri; Rodri, Silva, Reijnders; Cherki, Haaland, Marmoush.
The match will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Main Event in the UK. Coverage begins at 1pm BST.
