Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are believed to be close to an agreement for Manuel Ugarte.

The Uruguay international has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer, after losing his place in Luis Enrique’s side after just one season under the Spaniard.

Ugarte was left out of PSG’s matchday squad for their Ligue 1 curtain-raiser against Le Harve on Friday. The French champions have also signed a replacement with Joao Neves joining from Benfica a few weeks ago.

The latest from France suggests the two clubs are leaning towards an agreement on a transfer of around €60m (£51m).

French publication Le Parisien claims details remain to be finalised, but the parties are confident that the operation will be completed by deadline day.

The report claims Ugarte had made a “perfect start” in Paris before “quickly becoming disillusioned”. His playing time decreased significantly from October until the end of the season.

Change of tactic for Ugarte approach

According to the Manchester Evening News, United could try and sign Ugarte in a deal similar to the one that brought Sofyan Amrabat to Old Trafford last summer.

However, the report in France hints at a permanent deal.

It all depends on what price they will be able to get him at, I guess!
