Premier League champions Manchester City have intensified their interest in pursuing a move for Bukayo Saka, according to a report from the Daily Mail.
The 20-year-old is yet to commit to a new deal at the Emirates Stadium and has just one year left on his current contract, albeit with the option of another 12 months.
Saka was a standout performer during the just-concluded campaign where he racked up 12 goals and seven assists across all competitions, earning him a place in the nominees for the Young Player of the Season award.
The winger broke into the Arsenal set-up as a left-back but has since nailed down a starting spot at right-wing ahead of his side’s record signing Nicholas Pepe which is a testament to his immense ability.
Alongside Manchester City, last season’s runners-up Liverpool have also been linked with a move for Saka although neither of the teams is expected to submit a bid in the upcoming transfer window.
With Arsenal failing to secure a return to the Champions League for the sixth consecutive campaign, Saka could be contemplating his long-term future at the club, especially with the best two sides in the country reportedly hot on this trail.
This summer could prove to be a definitive one as Mikel Arteta confirmed back in February that Arsenal were set to begin talks with Saka over a new deal.
“It is a conversation we are going to have with the player, then his agent, his family,” Arteta told the Standard.
“Obviously, our desire is to keep Bukayo as long as possible, because we are really happy.
“He is part of our club, our DNA, he is growing, he is maturing.”
As it stands, a move away from the Emirates Stadium looks unlikely for Saka but that could all change in the nearest future as we have seen in the case of some Premier League transfers in the past.
