In a positive development for FC Barcelona, Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Manchester City are ready to sell out-of-favour defender Joao Cancelo in the summer.

The Portuguese international, who is currently on loan at Bayern Munich, is on the radars of the Blaugrana as well as Premier League giants Arsenal.

Cancelo had a falling out with Pep Guardiola and was shipped off on loan in the January window to Bayern. Barcelona were interested in acquiring his services back then as well, but a move was prevented by their Financial Fair Play situation.

Bayern had a permanent purchase option worth €70 million for Cancelo, which they do not intend to trigger. With the season over in Germany, the right-back will now return to Manchester City, where he is understood to have no future either.

Indeed, the Premier League champions are ready to sell the seasoned full-back and the title-holders of La Liga are willing to pounce.

A new right-back is one of the priorities for Xavi Hernandez & co. heading into the summer. And Cancelo is at the top of the target list as Juan Foyth’s signing is seen as unfeasible while Benjamin Pavard could end up renewing his contract at Bayern Munich.

As such, the development of Manchester City being open to selling him will come as a boost for the Catalan heavyweights.

However, as is the case with most of their transfer plans in the summer, any move for Cancelo will depend on the club’s Financial Fair Play situation.

Given the economic circumstances, it has been suggested that Barcelona would prefer to sign the former Juventus ace on loan, but Man City seem to be insisting on a sale and could demand €40 million.

With Xavi also needing a top-notch pivot midfielder to replace Sergio Busquets, funding a move for Cancelo also could become tricky.

And with Arsenal also understood to be in the picture, it remains to be seen whether the La Liga champs can get their hands on the Portuguese international or not.
