Officials at Manchester City are reportedly open to the idea of selling one of the club’s longest-serving players during the 2025 summer transfer window.

That concerns the future of long-standing defender Kyle Walker, who has retained Manchester City’s captaincy for a second consecutive season following another club vote on the first-team leadership group.

Having taken on the armband following Ilkay Gundogan’s departure for FC Barcelona at the end of the 2022/23 season, there was an expectation that the German’s return one year later could spark a reshuffling of the pack.

However, Walker’s place and standing inside the Manchester City dressing room is respected highly amongst teammates, but his top-level professional playing career may be winding down towards a close.

Whilst the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender has constantly insisted that he would ideally like to close his career at his boyhood club of Sheffield United, interest from the Middle-East may sway his thinking.

According to the information of the Daily Star’s Harry Pratt, Premier League champions Manchester City are now willing to sell club captain Kyle Walker in the next summer transfer window for around £15 million.

It is claimed that the 34-year-old is a target for Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli and a move could suit both him and Manchester City, with the England international being out of contract in June 2026.

The report goes on to suggest that there are no further talks scheduled over the possibility of a contract extension, and as such the current belief is that Walker will continue to hold his existing agreement until expiry.

Speaking on the final months and years of his career back in March, Kyle Walker explained on his continuation to compete at the highest level, “As long as my legs are going and I feel I can contribute at a certain level.

I don’t want to drop too low, I think it gets harder – certain things you have the luxury of having at Manchester City – facilities or nutrition – but I’d like to finish at Sheffield United.”

For now, Walker will continue to compete for a place in Manchester City’s defence, whilst teenage talent Rico Lewis holds down the right-back berth in higher-profile affairs offering the ability to support in midfield when in possession.
