Manchester City looks to have unleashed yet another devastating weapon

While the 24/25 season is only in its infancy Manchester City looks to have unleashed another devastating weapon. Brazilian international Savinho has made an impressive start to his career at the world champions. Based on his first two performances for the club he has added a different dynamic to Manchester City’s play. Given how potent Pep Guardiola’s side are in the final third that is a scary proposition for City’s rivals.

While he only played the first half of City’s win against Chelsea last weekend the signs were promising from Savinho at Stamford Bridge. He gave Marc Cucurella a torrid time at times during City’s 2-0 win. But his game went up another level during his home debut at the Etihad Stadium during City’s 4-1 win over Ipswich Town.

It was apparent early that Savinho was eager to impress yesterday. His ability to beat a man out wide was on show right from kickoff. The Brazilian international was determined to give Ipswich Town left-back Leif Davis similar treatment to that he gave to Marc Cucurella. He succeeded in that goal.

After Ipswich Town took the lead the Brazilian international was felled by Davis to earn City a penalty. His dribbling ability drew a desperate challenge from Davis and earned City a penalty. Erling Haaland dispatched the spot kick to restore parity. But his next impact on the game was arguably even more impressive.

In the 14th minute, Ipswich Town keeper Arijanet Muric was dispossessed by Savinho. The Brazilian winger pressed Muric into an error. His challenge on Muric fell into the path of Kevin De Bruyne who calmly slotted home to give City a 2-1 lead. Pressing is a crucial part of Pep Guardiola’s game plan, and Savinho looks to be an asset in this regard. His work rate, coupled with his prodigious talent, makes him appear to be the total package. That is a frightening prospect to ponder for City’s rivals.

But what stands out in Savinho’s game is how quickly he has adapted to life at Manchester City. He appears to have quickly adjusted to the demands of Pep Guardiola and his teammates. Savinho picks his moments when to beat a man and when to help his team maintain possession. That is a special quality of the Brazilian international. It would be expected that they may have been an area of the game that would’ve taken Savinho time to learn. But he looks to have adjusted quickly to life at Manchester City. That is a credit to the Brazilian winger.
