Premier League champions Manchester City have reportedly identified a potential new goalkeeper signing as Ederson’s future remains uncertain this summer.

With the ongoing summer market now into its third week, Manchester City officials continue to know very little about whether they will be experiencing their first major change in the number one goalkeeping position since 2017.

The arrival of Ederson from SL Benfica marked a significant moment in the stylistic demands of Pep Guardiola, with the Catalan coach switching the club from a traditional goalkeeper in Joe Hart to a ball-playing operator in the Brazilian international.

However, having achieved everything there is to win with Manchester City, and revolutionising the perception of goalkeeping in England, Ederson may now decide that this summer is the right moment to take on a change of scenery and challenge in his career.

That openness to dialogues over a potential transfer has given Saudi Arabian transfer bosses plenty of hope of securing a deal, while Manchester City could be left scrambling for a new goalkeeper to come into the squad.

According to the information of Football Transfers’ Steve Kay, Manchester City have now taken a keen interest in signing Brazilian under-23 international goalkeeper Mycael Pontes Moreira, simply known as Mycael, this summer.

With Stefan Ortega widely expected to be promoted into the number one goalkeeping slot at the Etihad Stadium, should Ederson finalise a move to the Saudi Pro League, Manchester City will be on the search for a new back-up goalkeeper.

And despite having only registered two senior appearances for Athletico Paranaense’s first-team, 20-year-old Mycael has attracted interest from numerous teams, with City reportedly the most active club with hopes of bringing him to the Premier League.

Saudi Arabian clubs could understand their financial budgets as early as this week, and so supporters can expect the future of Ederson to be clarified not too long after, with Manchester City bracing themselves for an official offer.

Al-Nassr are understood to be the club most keen on the Manchester City shot-stopper, with various eye-watering wage packages having been mooted in quarters, including the potential for Ederson to earn upwards of £1 million per week in the Middle-East.

Manchester City are set to return for pre-season duties on Monday 15 July, and Ederson is unlikely to attempt any force through of a transfer by not reporting for training, joining Stefan Ortega and Scott Carson as expected.
