Manchester City have admitted to breaching Premier League rules on 22 different occasions.

An official Premier League statement today (31 July 2024) revealing the news.

Today’s news showing Manchester City in trouble on and off the pitch.

As this has nothing to do with the 115 alleged breaches of Premier League rules, regarding the finances of the club. We still await the much delayed and anticipated hearing on those.

Instead, this is to do with how Manchester City have behaved on 22 different Premier League matchday over the course of the last two seasons.

Manchester City having admitted breaking the rules and agreeing to pay fines in excess of £2m, for for delaying kick-offs to Premier League games.

The 22 games in question, include when Manchester City played West Ham on the final day of last (2023/24) season, a game where Man City knew that to win the title they would have to better Arsenal’s result against Everton. Kick-off in that game was delayed by two minutes and 46 seconds.

Last (2023/24) season, both Newcastle United matches against Manchester City were found to have been delayed.

The NUFC away game at the Etihad on 19 August 2023:

Kick-off 2 minutes and 34 seconds delayed

Restart after half-time was 1 minute 17 seconds delayed

The NUFC home game v Man City on 13 January 2024:

Restart after half-time was delayed 1 minute 46 seconds

Premier League statement on Manchester City breaches – 31 July 2024:

‘The Premier League and Manchester City FC have entered into a sanction agreement after the club accepted it had breached Premier League Rule L.33 relating to kick-off and re-start obligations.

The breaches relate to a number of Premier League matches during the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons.

Rules relating to kick-offs and re-starts help ensure the organisation of the competition is set at the highest possible professional standard and provides certainty to fans and participating clubs. It also ensures the broadcast of all 380 League matches around the world is kept to schedule.
