Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer unsure of letting go of Donny van de Beek in January

According to the information provided by sources to ESPN correspondent Rob Dawson, Manchester United head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer might not be open to letting Donny van de Beek leave the club in January.

The 24-year-old has endured an incredibly tough time at Old Trafford since completing his £40million move from AFC Ajax last summer. Big things were expected from the Dutch prospect, but the midfielder is yet to be provided with a lot of opportunities to prove his point to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

While he did make 36 appearances over the course of last season, he only managed 15 starts, out of which only four were in the Premier League. The likes of Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, Scott McTominay, and Fred have been preferred in the midfield roles, thereby keeping the Dutch international out of the squad.

Things have not gotten better this season as he has only managed 2 starts out of the 10 games United have played, and none of them have been in the Premier League.

Game-time was always going to be hard to come by as there were no midfield exits this summer, courtesy of which Van de Beek also tried to get a move to Everton on deadline day.

There has been commotion again relating to the fact that he could push for a move out of the club in January if he does not receive the required game-time.

However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is thought to be intent on keeping the player at Old Trafford as he wants to avoid overplaying his players – something he privately admitted to doing last season.

Lack of minutes have led to the 24-year-old losing his place in the Netherlands squad as well, thus, only time will tell where Van de Beek’s future lies beyond 2021.
