Manchester United will be hoping to build on an unbeaten Premier League home run when they host Wolverhampton Wanderers are Old Trafford on Sunday 20th April. The Red Devils are playing for pride in the league, still stuck in the bottom half. Wolves, meanwhile, know they are almost safe from relegation.
Both teams have scored in just two of the past 12 meetings between these two sides across all competitions.
Surprisingly, Man Utd have been shown more goals than Wolves this season, averaging 2.29 per game to their opponents’ 2.16.
Man Utd are currently seven points outside the top half of the table, and are mainly playing for pride with European football out of the question. The Red Devils will look to the Europa League as their only chance of returning to continental competition next season. They are on a bit of an unbeaten run at home in the league at the moment. Although that run is only three games, it’s Man Utd’s biggest under Ruben Amorim. They’ve won one of those games, against relegation-battling Ipswich Town, but have also picked up draws against Arsenal and Manchester City.
Wolves are so close to safety. They’ve been a good run under Vitor Pereira at just the right time. Wolves have won their past three games as part of a wider four-match unbeaten run. It’s lifted them 12 points clear of the relegation zone with seven games left to play. And they have the boost of a much better goal difference than 18th-placed Ipswich. Wolves are also on a good run away from home, winning each of their past three matches on the road.
Amad Diallo, Jonny Evans and Ayden Heaven are all expected to miss out for this game. Lisandro Martinez is a long-term absentee.
Sasa Kalajdzic, Yerson Mosquera, Enso Gonzalez and Leon Chiwone are all long-term absentees for Wolves.
Wolves are looking to do the league double over Man Utd for the first time since 1979-80, after their 2-0 win at Molineux on Boxing Day. But Man Utd have won the past two meetings at Old Trafford.
