Marcos Leonardo has been linked with a move to Manchester United.

Manchester United have a €25m proposal ready as they look to beat Roma to Santos striker Marcos Leonardo, according to reports.

The Red Devils played Marcus Rashford up front in their first two matches of the season with Alejandro Garnacho and Antony supporting him on the wings.

Rashford prefers playing out wide and is often more effective in that position with Erik ten Hag waiting for summer signing Rasmus Hojlund to recover from a back injury.

The injury has kept the Denmark international out of the whole of pre-season and is still working his way back up to match sharpness on the training ground.

And, with Anthony Martial’s future up in the air, a report today has claimed they might ditch their interest in Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat in order to bring in another striker before the transfer deadline.

Man Utd have also decided to part company with Mason Greenwood and now Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport insists they want to sign Leonardo ahead of Serie A side Roma.

Gazzetta dello Sport add that Roma might go for Real Betis striker Willian Jose while they ‘wait for the return of Tammy Abraham and the landing of Marcos Leonardo’.

But signing Leonardo could be trickier than first imagined as Man Utd have ‘also swooped’ in late for the 20-year-old with the Red Devils ‘ready to offer €20m + €5m in bonuses’ to sign the striker.

Leonardo, who has been linked with Man Utd in the past, has scored 49 goals in 151 appearances in all competitions since coming through the youth ranks at Santos.

As well as Hojlund, Andre Onana and Mason Mount have also arrived at Old Trafford in summer and former Liverpool goalkeeper David James reckons Onana will be a great signing for Man Utd.

On Onana, James told GGRecon: “I’m a massive fan. When Manchester United signed him, I was quietly buzzing and that’s not me saying that I want Manchester United to win anything.

“Having followed him closely last season in the Champions League, I believed this was a goalkeeper that should be playing for one of the top teams in the Premier League and with plenty of question marks over David de Gea last season, it just made perfect sense for Manchester United to bring Andre Onana in.

“The penalty incident against Wolves doesn’t really matter because he did what he did and he didn’t get punished for it. That’s not his fault. We talk about the David Raya and Aaron Ramsdale situation at Arsenal and Onana is better than both of them.

“He should, and could be, Manchester United’s outlet with his distribution. It wouldn’t even surprise me if he gets an assist this season. It almost looks as if Manchester United weren’t ready for his aerial dominance, coming out and winning balls.

“I believe Andre Onana will arguably make Manchester United a better team. If they don’t, then it has never been the goalkeeper’s issue, it’s an issue with Manchester United’s outfield.

“If Manchester United don’t improve this season, then Erik ten Hag is going to have to identify what the issue is with his team up the field to find out why they’re not challenging for honours. Onana’s a great acquisition and I’m looking forward to seeing some great performances from him this season.”
