Man United Opinion: Red Devils should go all out in their pursuit of wonder kid Florent Da Silva

According to Metro, Man United have been credited with an interest in Lyon wonder kid Florent Da Silva, with reports claiming that the Red Devils have entered into negotiations with the French heavyweights to secure a deal for the 16-year-old.

Da Silva, who is yet to sign a professional contract with Lyon, featured for the club’s reserve side in the Championnat National 2 as well as in the UEFA Youth League for the U-19s last season. However, he is yet to train with the senior team or make a senior competitive appearance for Lyon.

The 16-year-old is held in very high regard by the youth coaches at Lyon and club president Jean-Michel Aulas is keen to fight tooth and nail to hold on to him, the Metro understands.

Aulas successfully managed to save 15-year-old striker Ryan Cherki from the jaws of United a few days back and he has made it a top priority to keep Da Silva at the club as well. (h/t Metro)

However, it is believed that the ultimate decision regarding any move rests with Da Silva, given that he is yet to sign a senior professional contract with Lyon. The highly-rated midfielder, who has been making waves with his impressive displays at the youth level, has also represented France at the U-16 level.

Meanwhile, Man United have already set the ball rolling in the summer transfer window with deals for promising youngsters like Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James, with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looking set for a youthful overhaul of his current squad.

The Norwegian seems determined to recruit bright emerging talents as a part of the club’s long-term plans moving forward in a bid to bring back the glory days at Old Trafford, which have apparently faded away since the departure of legendary Sir Alex Ferguson.

Wan-Bissaka and James have been brought in as first-team prospects, with a view to enhancing their potential in the years to come. However, it seems like United are also in the market for players who could possibly go on to evolve into future stars, as evident from their interest in the likes of Ryan Cherki and Florent Da Silva.

To put things into perspective, it should be an absolute no-brainer for United to go ahead with their interest in the 16-year-old prodigy from Lyon and complete a deal as soon as possible.

It is true that the Red Devils still have plenty of issues to sort out in their first-team ahead of the upcoming campaign but they should also make it a point to balance their recruitment strategy by bringing in a few talented kids from across the continent, with a view to supplementing their youth and reserve side with some top-quality talent.

Even if a move materializes, it is highly unlikely that the fans at Old Trafford would get to see a glimpse of him in the Premier League next season, given that he is still very young and in the rudimentary stages of his development.

However, Da Silva seems to be a real talent and the Red Devils might regret missing out on him if he goes on to fulfil his promise and evolve into a stalwart in the years to come.

Bringing in future prospects like Florent Da Silva should go a long way towards enriching the club’s youth academy, which was once the most reliable supply line for Six Alex to replace first-team stars. Keeping that in mind, the Red Devils should go all out in their pursuit of the 16-year-old Lyon whizkid.
