With the news of Sheffield Wednesday's embargo being lifted, they will no doubt be exploring the market soon to make some much-needed additions.
Sheffield Wednesday have had their transfer embargo lifted, but they are not able to do as they please just yet.
As reported by the Sheffield Star last Friday, the Owls have had their transfer embargo in relation to non-payment of wages and transfer fees outstanding to other clubs lifted.
However, they are far from in the clear just yet. After breaching the EFL's 30-day rule, they are still under a fee restriction until at least the end of the 2027 winter transfer window.
It has been a chaotic summer in South Yorkshire so far, with player and staff wages going unpaid, along with cancelled friendly games, stands at the ground closing and a threadbare squad for the opening fixture.
Wednesday were defeated 2-1 by Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Sunday despite taking the lead, with both Nathaniel Chalobah and Yan Valery leaving the field injured, whilst Barry Bannan was sent off following two yellow cards.
The Owls host Stoke City on Saturday in their first home game of the season, with tensions expected to be at an all-time high at Hillsborough.
Despite all the commotion surrounding the club, Wednesday have opened talks with Man United regarding a move for 18-year-old left-back Harry Amass on loan for the season, with the Sheffield Star further reporting that they are eyeing up more than 60 players.
With additions needed quickly on Wednesday, Football League World has looked at two players who could follow Amass to Hillsborough.
With the news of United youngster Amass potentially on his way to Wednesday, the Owls may yet move for another Red Devils youngster in Collyer.
As per the Sheffield Star, Wednesday have registered an interest in both Amass and Collyer, who could both join on loan for the season, following the embargo restrictions being lifted.
Collyer, 21, joined United in 2022 from Brighton and Hove Albion, but has struggled to break into the first-team fold at Old Trafford, making just six Premier League appearances last season, while playing a sporadic role in cup competitions.
Now, the young midfielder could be set for the first loan switch of his career, with Wednesday seeming a potential destination for Collyer.
Following Bannan's suspension and Chalobah's injury against Leicester, Wednesday are even lighter in the midfield than they already were, leaving just Sean Fusire and Svante Ingelsson as the club's only two available central midfielders.
Should Collyer make the move from Manchester to Sheffield, he will be thrown in at the deep end from the get-go.
With nearly 500 games across his entire career, with over half of those coming in the Premier League, Mee would bring a wealth of experience and fight to a depleted Owls side in desperate need of legs.
Mee, 35, is currently without a club following his release from Brentford this summer and would be available to pick up for nothing.
Reports from The Guardian have reported that Wednesday have been offered the chance to sign experienced players Mee and former Leeds United stalwart Liam Cooper.
Wednesday fielded a back line of 20-year-old Gabreil Otegbayo, Dominic Iorfa and Max Lowe as part of a back three, the latter of whom has predominantly played as a left-back throughout his entire career.
Bodies are needed all over the pitch for Wednesday, with the defence being no different. Should Mee sign, Wednesday will have immediately improved their squad and backline with the former Burnley captain.
