Manchester United are prepared to spend big on one of Atalanta’s best players this summer, according to Italian outlet Calciomercato.
The Red Devils are likely to bolster multiple positions at the end of the season, and a new midfielder could be one of the priorities.
The club are poised to offload Christian Eriksen when his contract expires on June 30.
Casemiro could be sold for a cut-price deal, while Kobbie Mainoo could also leave for a premium fee amid his ongoing contract stand-off.
United need a solid replacement in their ranks, and they are reportedly willing to pay £51 million for Ederson.
The club have already informed Atalanta of their willingness to spend the reported amount.
Atalanta are trying to negotiate a new deal with Ederson beyond June 2027, but he appears to be fascinated by a Premier League move.
Ederson has made huge strides during his time with Atalanta. He has developed into one of the best-performing midfielders in the Italian top-flight.
The 25-year-old has completed 88 percent of his passes in Serie A this term with an average of 5.2 recoveries and 1.5 tackles. He has won 55 percent of his duels.
The midfielder has also excelled with his tireless work rate and high pressing.
Ederson would be a clear upgrade on Casemiro and Eriksen. The Brazilian is in his prime and will provide United with a future resale value.
The club were initially keen on signing him before recruiting Manuel Ugarte last year.
Juventus are also interested in the versatile midfielder, but Atalanta could prefer to do business with United rather than with a direct league rival.
United have a solid working relationship with the Bergamo outfit, having already signed Rasmus Hojlund and Amad Diallo from them.
