Anwar El Ghazi during a Premier League match for Aston Villa.
Manchester United are “not interested” in signing former Aston Villa winger Anwar El Ghazi after proposals by his agents, according to reports.
The Daily Mail reported last night that the Red Devils are weighing up a ‘shock move’ for former Aston Villa and Everton winger El-Ghazi with the uncertainty surrounding Jadon Sancho and Antony.
El Ghazi was in attendance to see Man Utd lose 3-1 to Arsenal in their final match before the international break after the Netherlands international left PSV Eindhoven by mutual consent last week.
He will now be able to join any team on a free transfer with the Daily Mail insisting that club could be Man Utd – but The Athletic journalist Laurie Whitwell has ruled out El Ghazi moving to Old Trafford.
Whitwell tweeted: “#MUFC not interested in Anwar El Ghazi, after proposal by agents. Right-wing options affected by Antony’s withdrawal + Sancho’s situation, but Pellistri was kept with a view to featuring, plus Garnacho could play there. Fernandes/Mount too, if necessary.”
It’s clear Sancho faces an uncertain future at Man Utd after Erik ten Hag publicly criticised the winger’s performance in training after leaving him out of their trip to Arsenal.
Sancho hit back on social media and it remains to be seen how reported imminent face-to-face talks between the Man Utd winger and Ten Hag pan out.
Antony, meanwhile, has been given a leave of absence by Man Utd in order to address allegations made against him of violence towards women.
On Sancho, former Man Utd defender Mikael Silvestre thinks the England international needs to “show in training that he can make a difference”.
Silvestre told bettingexpert.com: “The thing is, with all this noise, that you would rather focus on football and perform whether it’s in training or in matches; you want to be on top.
“It’s not a good situation for him and the team. He was brought in to be a good asset for the club, and ideally, he should have grown after a great time at Dortmund, but unfortunately, he hasn’t reached that level yet.
“There is a question mark around him for sure and his response has to be on the football pitch, and he needs to show in training that he can make a difference.
“Man United needs to be on top every single game to challenge Man City and Arsenal, so hopefully he will start performing better soon.”
And Silvestre is backing Man Utd youngster Facundo Pellistri, who had loan interest from Sheffield United in the summer, to step up when needed.
Silvestre added: “With players like Pellistri, they have to gain the time bit by bit, and he has to show his teammates and the coach that they can rely on him.
“He has done well so far, and he needs to repeat that when coming on, whether it’s 20 or 30 minutes or even from the start.”
