Liverpool journalist Emmet Gates reckons that Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is up there with the best players in the Premier League.

Following Salah's blistering recent form, Gates was quizzed on who he believes is alongside the Egyptian. And he mentioned the Frenchman as one of the best around currently.

It's been a strange start to the season for Pogba, who despite assisting seven goals in seven league games, hasn't been on top form since providing four in one game against Leeds.

Pogba's WhoScored rating (7.48) is the best in the Manchester United squad, although his impressive mark has remained so high purely because his performances against Leeds (9.0) and Newcastle (8.08) were so good.

Bizarrely, the 28-year-old was even left out of the side that drew with Everton before the international break, with the 20 minutes he managed on the pitch not enough to earn the three points for the Red Devils.

Pogba, valued at £54m by Transfermarkt, still has the joint-most assists in Europe, alongside French colleague Karim Benzema, and has shown some outstanding form at times this season despite being out of contract next summer.

In fact, his seven assists means he's only three behind his best ever return in the Premier League and Gates was in no doubt that the former Juventus midfielder should be in the conversation when asked the best players in England's top-flight.

What did Gates say?

When asked who is among the best players in the PL, he told GIVEMESPORT: "Paul Pogba, again. Pogba was brilliant on the opening day of the season, he recorded about four assists against Leeds in one game."

Where does Pogba rank in the Premier League right now?

In terms of top, there's not much debate that it's Mohamed Salah after the consistent goalscoring numbers he's been putting up at the beginning of this season.

Behind the Reds forward, though, it's firmly up for debate. City fans will say that when fit and firing De Bruyne is up untouchable, whilst you'd be brave to argue with the Tottenham faithful about the Kane we saw last season with both goals and assist aplenty.

But when Pogba is showing the passing range that was on display against Leeds on the opening day, you'd be foolish to leave him out, although his problem has always been his consistency because on his day, he's as good as any of those above.
