Manchester United’s search for a new manager has ended for now, with the arrival of Ralf Rangnick on a deal until the end of the season.

Rangnick will coach the first-team until the end of the season, with the club confirming he will remain a further two years after that in a consultancy role.

“I am excited to be joining Manchester United and focused on making this a successful season for the club,” Rangnick said.

“The squad is full of talent and has a great balance of youth and experience. All my efforts for the next six months will be on helping these players fulfil their potential, both individually and, most importantly, as a team.

“Beyond that, I look forward to supporting the club’s longer-term goals on a consultancy basis.”

It is unknown whether or not he will take charge of Thursday’s game against Arsenal as the German awaits his visa.

Rangnick is known for his preference for high intensity style of play, with the likes of Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp and Chelsea’s Thomas Tuchel understood to have been influenced by his methods.

His most recent role saw him working as manager of sports and development at Russian Premier League side Lokomotiv Moscow having previously worked as director of football for both RB Leipzig and Red Bull Salzburg.

He also has Bundesliga clubs such as Schalke, Hoffenheim, Hannover and Stuttgart on his coaching CV, and the Old Trafford hierarchy will be hoping his wealth of experience can quickly turn United’s season around.
