Manchester United won the Women's FA Cup for the first time ever as they eased to a 4-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

A quiet first half sparked into life when Ella Toone finished off a flowing counter attack with a brilliant curling strike just before the break.

Two goals in four second-half minutes made sure of the result as Rachel Williams climbed highest to head in Katie Zelem's free-kick to make it 2-0 before a disastrous mistake from Becky Spencer handed Lucia Garcia a tap-in. Spurs' capitulation then allowed the Spaniard to grab a second goal, clinically finding the roof of the net.

Lionesses striker Beth England came close to getting Tottenham back into the contest at 3-0 down but her header came back off the crossbar.

It is United's first ever Women's FA Cup triumph, having been defeated finalists last year when Sam Kerr struck the winner for Chelsea in a 1-0 defeat. It also marks the first time since 2012 the competition has been won by a team other than Chelsea, Arsenal or Manchester City.

The Red Devils beat Newcastle United, Southampton, Brighton and Hove Albion and Chelsea to reach the Wembley final, while Spurs ousted Sheffield United, Charlton Athletic, Manchester City and Leicester City.

United are back in action on Saturday when they take on Chelsea on Saturday on the final matchday of the Women's Super League season, while Tottenham also face the Blues in midweek before finishing the campaign against West Ham United.
