Manchester United and Chelsea are monitoring Ronald Araujo with the defender yet to agree terms on a new contract at Barcelona.

Araujo has emerged as a key figure for Barcelona across the past two seasons and the Spanish side are keen to reward the centre-back with a new contract, but have so far been unable to agree terms on an extension.

The Uruguay international’s current deal expires in 2023 and Marca are reporting that Manchester United and Chelsea are among the clubs monitoring his situation.

Each have made the defender aware of their interest as the Premier League duo search for new arrivals at centre-back, whilst Real Madrid are also considering a raid on their Spanish rivals.

Araujo wants a new deal that reflects his improvement and increased status in Catalonia, but Barcelona have so far been unable to match the 22-year-old’s expectations.

The club’s concerning financial situation means players will need to be moved on before an upgraded contract can be finalised, with a new deal for teenage midfielder Gavi also on the club’s agenda.

Gavi’s deal is also set to expire in the summer of 2023 and Barcelona are keen to remove the £42m release clause in his current contract, having seen the 18-year-old break into the Spain national side in 2021.
