Manchester United target Antony ‘wants to move to the Premier League’ and could seal a summer switch to Old Trafford, according to Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor.

Erik ten Hag officially took over as the Red Devils’ boss following the climax of last season and, although he is still looking to complete his first signing, a familiar face could prove to be his opening acquisition.

What’s the latest news involving Antony?

According to Goal, Antony is determined to seal a reunion with ten Hag by swapping Ajax for Manchester United.

The report suggests the Red Devils have held informal discussions over a move for the six-cap Brazil international and, despite failing to lodge a bid so far, have been handed a major boost thanks to it becoming clear he is eager to head to Old Trafford.

That should not come as a surprise as Antony took to social media to confirm ‘I will always stand with you if you need me’ after ten Hag left Ajax for Manchester United.

It is understood that Red Devils officials were due to arrive in Amsterdam at the start of the week as they looked to get a £40million deal over the line.

However, Ajax are in a strong negotiating position as Antony’s contract, worth £19,000-per-week, still has three years to run.

What has Ryan Taylor said about Antony?

Taylor understands that Antony is keen to be playing Premier League football when the 2022/23 campaign gets underway.

The journalist believes Manchester United stand a good chance of striking a deal, but the Red Devils are struggling to secure any more attacking signings.

Taylor told GIVEMESPORT: “Antony’s one they’ll definitely look at. He wants to move to the Premier League as well, so I think that’s a very realistic signing.

“In terms of other strikers and players like that, I don’t know if there’s genuinely any concrete links at the moment.”

Why is ten Hag keen to be reunited with Antony?

Ten Hag has inherited a Manchester United squad which finished 13 points adrift of the Champions League qualification places last season, so it is clear he needs to oversee a rebuild.

Bringing in stars he can trust could prove crucial for the Dutchman and he will know he can rely on Antony, who scored 22 goals and chalked up a further 20 assists in 79 appearances under his guidance.

Last season was particularly productive for the 22-year-old as he finished the campaign in the 99th percentile for assists, shots and efforts on target among attacking midfielders and wingers in the big five leagues and European competition.
