Man Utd 4-0 Liverpool: Darwin Nunez slammed for miss in thrashing | OneFootball

The Erik ten Hag era at Manchester United has got off to the best possible start.

Liverpool were the Red Devils’ first opponent in pre-season and they recorded an impressive victory over their fierce northern rival by a scoreline of 4-0.

Goals from Jadon Sancho, Fred and the returning Anthony Martial had United 3-0 ahead at the half-time interval in Bangkok.

And in the second half, Facundo Pellistri completed the scoring, the Uruguayan finishing off a superb counterattack which was orchestrated by none other than Eric Bailly.

Not a bad start to pre-season for Ten Hag and his merry men, eh?

Liverpool were pretty woeful on the night. Jurgen Klopp’s side committed far too many defensive errors and United carved through them with ease in the first half.

The Reds looked a tad better in the second period following the introduction of some first-team regulars, but they were still unable to get on the scoresheet.

Summer signing Darwin Nunez certainly should have rippled the back of the net late on, though.

The Uruguayan striker was presented with a relatively easy chance inside the box after Mohamed Salah hit the post with a wonderful curling effort.

Sadly for Liverpool, Nunez sent his effort sailing over the crossbar and unsurprisingly, the former Benfica man has been ridiculed for the miss on social media.

Of course, the chance should have been put away by a player who cost around €100 million, however, it certainly wasn’t quite as easy as some are making out.

Nunez had to react very quickly and wasn’t able to take a touch to settle himself, while he also had Bailly charging towards him in a desperate attempt to make a block.

Nevertheless, the 22-year-old still should have put the ball in the back of the net and if he misses an opportunity like that in Premier League action next month, the reaction on social media will be FAR worse…
