Manchester United target Denzel Dumfries is valued at around £34 million by Inter Milan, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Red Devils are believed to be in the market for defensive reinforcements this summer as new manager Erik ten Hag looks to make an instant impact after taking over the reins.

What is the latest news involving Dumfries?

Former first-choice right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who earns £90,000-per-week, has reportedly been informed that he can leave the club over the coming months after failing to make improvements to his attacking game.

It’s believed that his former side Crystal Palace are interested in taking the 24-year-old on loan for 2022/23, and it seems as though Dumfries has been identified as a possible replacement.

GOAL have claimed that the Netherlands international is ‘one target under consideration’ by Ten Hag as he searches for players capable of implementing his style of play at United.

And Dumfries shone in the final third of the pitch for Inter last term, racking up 12 goal contributions in his 45 appearances, claiming the Italian Cup along the way.

The 6 foot 2 ace still has three years remaining on his current contract, though, meaning United will have to pay a sizeable sum if they want to secure his services.

What has Romano said about Dumfries?

Prior to his switch to Inter, Dumfries spent three years on the books of Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven, coming up against Ten Hag’s Ajax on numerous occasions.

Romano, therefore, believes the wing-back is a player United’s boss ‘knows so well’, although revealed negotiations are yet to take place between the two clubs.

In an interview with GiveMeSport, he said: “Dumfries, he’s a player that Ten Hag knows so well, but at the same time, [it] is not something that at the moment is being negotiated between the clubs. For sure, Inter want 35million-40 million for Dumfries.”

Would Dumfries improve United?

Diogo Dalot established himself in the starting XI halfway through last season and would be Dumfries’ main competitor should he land in the red half of Manchester.

As per FBref, Dumfries racked up an expected goals total of 5.8 throughout 2021/22, while also producing 2.44 shot-creating actions and 1.20 key passes per 90 minutes, compared to Dalot’s tallies of 0.7, 1.85 and 0.80, respectively.

On the other hand, the Portugal international appears to have the upper hand defensively, winning 1.65 tackles, making 1.85 blocks, and producing 2.20 interceptions per 90, whereas Dumfries put up totals of 1.11, 1.29 and 1.16.
