Drury is a true wordsmith and came out with a series of gems as Jurgen Klopp’s side thumped the Red Devils at Old Trafford.

This was one of the most humiliating defeats in United’s history.

The hosts found themselves 2-0 down after 13 minutes when Naby Keita and Diogo Jota both found the back of the net.

Mohamed Salah made it 4-0 to Liverpool before half-time before the world-class Egyptian forward completed his hat-trick shortly after the restart.

Substitute Paul Pogba was shown a straight red card with 30 minutes remaining as United’s afternoon went from bad to worse.

However, no further goals were scored during the final half-hour as Liverpool took their foot off the gas during the closing stages.

Peter Drury's commentary during Man Utd 0-5 Liverpool

When Salah made it 4-0 on the stroke of half-time, Drury said: “It gets no worse than this. Given the context of the game, given the history of the game, given the meaning of the game, it is almost beyond cognisance that the scoreline before half-time in front of the Stretford End should be Manchester United 0, Liverpool 4.”

When Salah completed his hat-trick to make it 5-0, Drury added: “He’s on an Old Trafford hat-trick here, Mo Salah… and he captures the moment. The man is extraordinary, the match is extraordinary, the scoreline is extraordinary - that picture will be framed and kept forever by Liverpool fans all over the world.”

And at the final whistle, Drury said: “A scoreline for a generation. A scoreline for a lifetime. For the history of English football, a scoreline which will echo down the ages. Mo Salah scored a hat-trick - his day. Ole Solskjaer has it to drink in. Has it somehow to interpret. Has it somehow to react to. His job feels impossible. This, for Manchester United, was impossibly bad. Manchester United, nil. Liverpool, five.”

It just feels that little more emphatic coming from Drury, doesn’t it?
