The brass at Premier League giants Manchester United are expected to seek out some form of compensation as part of the deal which sends Benfica star Álvaro Carreras to Real Madrid.
That’s according to Marca, who have on Tuesday provided an insight into the situation.
The name of Benfica standout Carreras has of course proven an altogether prominent one in Spain’s capital over the course of the last week.
This comes following widespread confirmation that the 22-year-old has been identified as the first-choice option to reinforce the left-back ranks in Real Madrid’s squad.
The incoming Xabi Alonso is understood to be a keen admirer of Carreras’ talents, eager to work with his compatriot next season.
Florentino Pérez and co, in turn, have kicked into gear negotiations with both the player and his club, over the terms of a summer transfer.
For a successful conclusion to the operation to be reached, though, another club who are expected to seek out a fee are the aforementioned Manchester United.
Premier League heavyweights United sold Carreras to Benfica on a permanent basis last summer, but hold a buyback clause on the young Spaniard.
For as much to be waived just 12 months on, the Red Devils, as per Marca, will therefore ‘ask for some kind of compensation’.
