Manchester United are poised to return with an improved bid for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo after their first approach was rejected, according to a fresh report from Sky Sports News, via Dharmesh Sheth. The Premier League giants remain “optimistic a deal can be struck,” signalling strong intent from the new regime at Old Trafford under recently appointed manager Ruben Amorim.
United’s summer strategy appears focused on intelligent, high-impact reinforcements rather than the marquee signings of past transfer windows. Mbeumo, who registered 20 goals and 7 assists in the 2024/25 Premier League season, fits the profile: dynamic, Premier League-proven, and still only 25.
Brentford reportedly value him at around £60million, after United’s opening offer of £50million was rejected by the Bees.
This is a clear statement of direction. Amorim’s United are not only looking to bolster their attacking options but are targeting players who complement the team tactically and stylistically. Mbeumo’s versatility — able to operate across the front line — and his relentless work rate are attributes that align well with the pressing and positional structure Amorim typically demands.

Brentford, for their part, appear reluctant to part ways with Mbeumo easily. The initial rejection of United’s bid demonstrates how highly they value their Cameroon international. It also suggests they believe further interest will emerge and potentially drive up the price.
One significant subplot involves the possibility of Thomas Frank leaving Brentford for Tottenham Hotspur. Sky Sports News reports: “There are reports suggesting Thomas Frank will try and tempt Mbeumo to go to Tottenham, if he takes over as their new head coach.” This potential managerial shift adds a new layer of uncertainty, particularly if Frank is keen to bring trusted players with him.
However, those close to Mbeumo’s camp have offered encouragement to United fans. Sky Sports also confirm: “It’s understood the player wants to join United.” If true, this could be pivotal. The player’s preference often proves decisive, especially when clubs are relatively evenly matched on financial terms.
Although he has only just taken the reins, Ruben Amorim is already making his mark on recruitment. Mbeumo’s profile fits the type of forward the former Sporting CP boss has utilised in his tactical systems: mobile, intelligent, and selfless in and out of possession.
Amorim’s emphasis on fluid attacking transitions, combined with a compact and aggressive pressing shape, makes Mbeumo a natural fit. It would also potentially ease the burden on players like Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Højlund, who carried the lion’s share of attacking responsibility last season.

If United can secure the deal early in the window, it would not only strengthen the squad but also signal to fans and rivals that the club is serious about building around Amorim’s vision.
While negotiations are ongoing, Manchester United’s optimism is telling. This is not merely a speculative link. The club believes in both the strategic fit and the player’s willingness to make the switch.
United have historically struggled with drawn-out transfer sagas. However, early intent and clarity in pursuit of Mbeumo might suggest a new, more decisive approach under the current structure. As one insider noted, “United are expected to go back in with an improved offer.”
If successful, this would be a significant early win for Amorim and a fanbase eager for a new era of calculated ambition and progress.
From a Manchester United fan’s perspective, this is exactly the kind of move we want to see. Bryan Mbeumo is not just a promising player, he is one who has proven himself in the Premier League. He tormented defenders last season with his directness, vision and relentless energy. That he wants to join United, according to Sky Sports, is music to our ears. We’re done chasing players who see us as a backup plan.
More importantly, under Ruben Amorim, there’s finally a sense of identity forming. If Mbeumo is his target, then we should trust it’s part of a broader strategy. United have lacked tactical cohesion for years, and Amorim’s Sporting side was known for its structure and discipline. Mbeumo could be a cornerstone in bringing that to life at Old Trafford.
There’s also something symbolic about this deal. Mbeumo isn’t a Galáctico, but he could be the next big thing in the right system. It shows we’re building, not just spending.
Here’s hoping the improved bid goes through quickly and we can start pre-season with real momentum.
