Manchester United could play Young Boys in a neutral country due to Omicron concern

According to Telegraph Sport (Subscription Required), the Switzerland government’s strict new rules to tackle the Omicron variant of the Covid virus can push Manchester United to play their Champions League game against BSC Young Boys at a neutral venue.

The Omicron variant of the Covid-19 virus is beginning to create growing concerns among countries all over the world. This has forced the Switzerland government to impose strict new rules to tackle the situation. However, These new rules can affect Manchester United’s final group game in the UEFA Champions League.

It is believed that UEFA have urgently enquired to the Swiss government whether the Young Boys players would need to be quarantined for ten days after returning from the United Kingdom.

If the Swiss government decides to impose the mandatory quarantine on the returning players, it could hamper the pre-planned schedule. In such a condition, UEFA rules suggest that the game must need to be ‘moved – if possible – to a neutral country.’

The change of venue could prove to be disadvantageous for the Red Devils, who suffered a crushing defeat against the Swiss team during the away game in September. Playing away from Old Trafford would have a considerable effect on United’s home advantage.
