A report by The Athletic (Subscription Required) [h/t Express] claims that Manchester United transfer target, Eduardo Camavinga, could be sold in the summer if he doesn’t renew his contract.
The article mentions that Camavinga will not be extending his Rennes contract. His current deal at the Ligue 1 side expires in the summer of 2022.
The 18-year-old midfielder is undoubtedly one of the hottest young prospects in the world. He has appeared 77 times for Rennes since making his debut for the club two years back.
But his side faces the prospect of missing out on Europe next season as they sit 7th in the Ligue 1 table. And the report mentions Manchester United and Chelsae as the two Premier League clubs interested in a move for him.
Rennes would, of course, want to extend the youngster’s stay at the club but want to include a high buyout clause. However, Camavinga is not keen on that due to the prospect of it affecting a future transfer. (h/t Express)
His agent, Josh Barnett, recently admitted that the Frenchman could play in the Premier League next season.
“Camavinga can play next year in the Premier League. He is that good. Whether he will or not, I don’t know… his character is amazingly strong. He is not your average 18-year-old.”
Unfortunately for United, La Liga giants Real Madrid are also on the hunt for Camavinga and are monitoring his situation. But the Red Devils have shown their willingness to give chance to young talents recently. (h/t Express)
And at just 18, he has his best years still ahead of him. Paul Pogba’s future remains in the air perpetually and Nemanja Matic is not getting any younger. In such a situation, signing a talented teenager like Camavinga offers great long-term security.
