Man United plotting sensational move to snatch West Ham’s Lucas Paquetá from under Man City’s nose | OneFootball

Manchester United are reportedly keen on signing West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta, who is also attracting heavy interest from reigning Premier League champions Manchester City.

The midfield is an area of the pitch Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS could look to strengthen, especially if Casemiro leaves.

Casemiro has been linked to a Saudi Pro League transfer as he continues to dramatically decline. The five-time Champions League winner was very poor once again during United’s frustrating 2-2 draw against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday.

He kept losing the ball, his passing was erratic and below par, he kept recklessly sliding into challenges and barely offered any protection to his defenders who were frequently exposed.

According to Fichajes, United are weighing up a swoop for Paqueta – a versatile player who can play in multiple positions in the middle of the park, although he excels best in the playmaker role that Bruno Fernandes usually occupies.

He can also be deployed on the wings.

This is not the first time the Red Devils have been linked to the West Ham man. Last month, a report covered by The Peoples relayed that the United could offer Harry Maguire to the Hammers and use him as a makeweight in any deal to lure Paqueta to Old Trafford.

David Moyes’ admiration for Maguire is a well-known fact and the Irons boss even launched an unsuccessful bid to sign the former United skipper last summer. It’s thought that the London outfit still want to sign Maguire, whose long-term United future is not certain.

Fichajes relays that United want a marquee recruit and believe Paqueta fits this profile.

The publication notes that Pep Guardiola’s City side are leading the race for Paqueta and are set to submit a big-money offer for him when the summer transfer window opens.

Fichajes notes that in addition to Paqueta’s creativity and versatility, another attribute that makes him an attractive prospect for the Manchester clubs is his work rate and willingness to always get involved defensively.

The 26-year-old has registered eight goals and seven assists in 37 appearances across all competitions this term.
