Transfer News: Manchester United open to selling Alex Telles to Inter Milan this January

According to the Italian publication, L’Interista, Manchester United have handed Inter Milan the opportunity to sign Alex Telles on a permanent transfer this January. It is an incredible piece of news since he has enjoyed more minutes under Ralf Rangnick than his predecessor Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Man United have completely ruled out the possibility of a loan move since they are keen to bring in funds courtesy of a permanent transfer. They have slapped a price tag of at least €15million for Telles and appear ready to part ways with him in the coming days. No information has been made available on whether Inter are interested in taking this opportunity or not.

With not many days left for the winter transfer market to close, how this situation develops moving forward remains to be seen. It is intriguing to think about the basis on which the Red Devils have decided to sell the Brazilian midseason.

Doubtful to be honest

It is advisable to take this news with a pinch of salt for obvious reasons. After all, the 29-year-old has gained more prominence under Rangnick in recent games. Moreover, the boss conveyed that he is happy with the performance of the left-back so far, which further raises doubts regarding the integrity of this report.

It would not make sense for the Manchester club to put themselves into a precarious spot by weakening their backline. If we end up selling Telles, Luke Shaw would be our only option in that role. Given the Englishman’s performances this season, it is in the team’s best interests to keep him away from the starting XI.

Curiously, Shaw is recovering from a hamstring issue and is only expected to return next month. One could argue this international break could help us sell the Brazil international and look for alternatives. However, it is a race against time to get two deals done before the window slams shut next week.

One can see why Inter might be linked with a marauding left-back this month. Simone Inzaghi’s 3-5-2 system relies on his full-backs bombing up and down the flank. Ivan Perisic is one of the Nerazzurri’s best players on the left but is in the final few months of his contract and could leave on a free in the summer.

In Telles, they could land themselves a dynamic replacement who is also excellent at set-pieces. For now, however, this is all conjecture, and Inter have failed to show any serious interest in landing the Brazilian.

Rangnick’s arrival has breathed new life into Telles and Diogo Dalot’s careers at Old Trafford. The former is technically more proficient than Shaw and packs a punch, especially in attack. He appears to be a better fit for Rangnick’s all-action style.

If the 63-year-old manager helps the Brazilian defender reach the heights he managed to scale at Porto, it will be a win-win for him and Man United. As things stand, it remains to be seen if there is any figment of truth in him being on the market this month.
