Manchester United have held talks with the representatives of Ardon Jashari as the Red Devils push to beat AC Milan in the red-hot race for the Club Brugge star, according to reports.
United have identified Jashari, 22, as a key target this summer after the midfielder’s impressive campaign in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League.
The Switzerland international scooped up the league’s Player of the Season award, propelling Brugge to a second-place finish with a series of eye-catching displays at the heart of Nicky Hayen’s side.
Despite being deployed as a deep-lying playmaker, drawing comparisons with legendary Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets, Jashari still chipped in with four goals and six assists in all competitions for the Blauw-Zwart.
The Red Devils are on the hunt for a new midfielder with Christian Eriksen departing the club this month and continued doubts over the suitability of Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo to Ruben Amorim’s system.
Jashari fits the profile INEOS have sought to implement in recruitment at Old Trafford – younger players in cheaper deals with obvious scope for improvement – with Brugge believed to be demanding €40 million for their midfield general.
A host of clubs across Europe are keen to secure Jashari’s signature, however, leading United to accelerate negotiations with his agent.
Domestically, both Fulham and West Ham have made advances for the 22-year-old which were “rejected”, according to Ryan Taylor (The Mirror). Borussia Dortmund have also expressed interest but were deterred by the asking price.
But it is Italian powerhouse AC Milan leading the race for Jashari after submitting a €30 million proposal (€25m + €5m in add-ons), according to Fabrizio Romano.
Tweet: “AC Milan have sent €25m plus €5m official bid to Club Brugge for Ardon Jashari. The Belgian club wants more as there are several clubs involved in the race, also from England. Talks underway.”
The Italian transfer guru reveals Milan’s offer was by Brugge with the club holding out for “more as there are several clubs involved in the race, also from England.” Romano expects the Serie A giant to return with an improved offer.
Taylor contends United have “held talks talks with reps of Club Brugge midfielder Ardon Jashari” in a bid to rival the Rossoneri but are yet to present a formal proposal to the Belgian side.
Jashari is believed to prefer a move to a Champions League or Europe League club, but there will no prospect of European competition on offer at either the San Siro or Old Trafford next season after dismal domestic campaigns for both teams.
United will need to move quickly and decisively to trump their Italian counterparts in the race for Swiss midfielder, who offers a level of technical ability sorely lacking from the middle of the park at the Theatre of Dreams in the past decade.
