Manchester United could become the third side in top flight history to go unbeaten away from home in a season

Manchester United will go into the Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers knowing full well that they could etch their name in the history books.

The Red Devils are so far unbeaten away from home and could extend that run for the entirety of a season at the Molineux. According to the Daily Mail, that will see them join an elite list of just two others sides.

Preston North End was the first team to achieve that record, all the way back in 1888/89 when they went unbeaten. Arsenal’s double winners later equalled the feat in 2001/02 before repeating it as part of the Invincibles in 2003/04.

United’s come-from-behind win against Aston Villa last week was our 11th away win of the season. In total, the team has played 18 away games so far, drawing the remaining seven.

The away form has been a major contributor to our rise up the table this season. Only champions Manchester City have outdone us in terms of points garnered on the road.

However, United could also become the first team to go unbeaten in away games over the course of a Premier League season, only to fall short of the title.

Home comforts?

Perhaps ironically, it is at Old Trafford that we have struggled. United have now suffered six losses at home in the league this season. It is our worst run since the 2013/14 season where we had seven defeats. The Red Devils have now also lost more home games in the league than the last two seasons combined.

We have also conceded 27 goals at home, our worst run since the 1971/72 campaign when we let in 26. In fact, only Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion have conceded more goals than United at home this season.

Despite our shortcomings, the team has shown fight on the road and it augurs well for the future. Hopefully Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side can finish the job at the Molineux.
